Montreal was ADAPT's first international action. Montreal's transit system was a member of APTA, so we followed our nemisis across the border. We were concerned we might be stopped at customs, and our original hotel went back on our contract. But in the end, although the city was not very accessible at all, we found another terrific hotel downtown, we were joined by local disability activists and the press was very interested in our story. We protested at the APTA hotels the first day and into the night. The next day we disrupted a spouses' luncheon on Mt Royal and continued our protest at the APTA hotels. By the day after many of us were in jail (the women were in the Tanguay Women's Prison - a notorious facility that has since been shut down) but others blocked buses in the city. Our last day we went across the river to Longeuil and demonstrated how inaccessible the Metro system was.
