The spring of 1997 was ADAPT's only (so far) double header. Splitting into two groups that hit DC one week after the other. Unable to find a hotel with an adequate meeting room we adapted by turning the underground parking garage into our meeting space. Some of our members with breathing difficulties put up with a lot but they understood and made it work. The friends we saw only twice a year however, did not get to see all of each other and that was a bitter pill. Week one was a protest at the White House, a call for the National Association Homecare and the American Nurse Association to push harder for community services, a visit to Alexis Herman, Secretary of the Department of Labor, who had reneged on a promise to ADAPT and a hit on Greyhound. Week two we took over the US Capitol Rotunda once again and thus initiated our Newt Watch, we hit the Department of Transportation to press for enforcement and strong rules for over the road (Greyhound style) buses. The last day MiCASA was distributed to every member of the House of Representatives.
