- US_Capitol_Rotunda_part_2_cap
This is part 2 of the ADAPT Capitol Rotunda protest in support of the Americans with Disabilities Act, ADA. This shows the group preparing for civil disobedience to pressure swift passage of the bill. Over 100 people were arrested at this protest, which gets less attention than the Crawl but was equally intense. The film is open captioned (as are all videos on this museum site). - ADAPT (481)
14—Rocky Mountain News., April 25, 1989, Denver, Colo PHOTO by KEN PAPALEO/Rocky Mountain Naws A group of ADAPT people in wheelchairs and sitting on the ground form a blockade in front of a major entryway to the Radisson Hotel. The hotel doormat is visible in front of the group. Behind them a single cop, with his arms folded across his chest, stands to one side of the door. From left to right the group includes: a woman in a manual chair, Bob Kafka sitting on the ground, Barb Guthrie facing out and behind her someone in a wheelchair facing in, next to that person is a person on the ground and in front of that person is Anita Cameron in a cap and holding her white cane, in front of her is an empty wheelchair facing the group. Next to Anita is Stephanie Thomas on the ground with her chair facing her, and behind her is Bernard Baker. Next to Bernard is Mike McTimmus and beside him is Joe Carle in his manual chair. In front of Joe, George Florum sits sidways and looks out at the camera with a pissed off expression intensified by his dark sun glasses. Behind and to the side of him is Chris Hronis in a power chair, and someone stands behind him. Caption reads: Members of ADAPT protest at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Denver. They were there yesterday as the Urban Mass Transportation Administration held its fifth annual Symposium on Public Transit and the Private Sector. - ADAPT (494)

PHOTO (by Tom Olin): Three women, all with their mouths open yelling, make a diagonal line across the picture. In the front a slim white woman in a power wheelchair (Robin Stephens) in a red ADAPT no steps logo T-shirt holds her hand up in an intense, CP open fist; her head is tilted to the right. On the side of her armrest you can make out a bumper sticker that reads "Proud and DisAbled" in white print on a blue background. Directly behind her and in the doorway of an elevator, another woman in a power wheelchair (Lillibeth Navarro) tilts her head the other way from Robin's. She is wearing large tinted glasses, a black ADAPT T-shirt with yellow writing and has a yellow ADAPT bandanna with black writing and logos draped on her lap. Behind her an African American woman (Paulette Patterson) is kneeling on the elevator floor with her head tilted the same way as Robin's. She has on an ADAPT bandanna around her neck and is holding herself up against the door frame. Each woman's face holds a different form of passion. In the very back of the elevator, in the opposite corner from Paulette, is another African American woman (Anita Cameron?) in the shadows, you can make out her yellow ADAPT headband and a white logo on her T-shirt. - ADAPT (631)
Atlanta Daily News 10/1990 [very poor quality copy, picture almost impossible to see] IN PROTEST PHOTO by Philip Barry, Daily News A guard stands in doorway in foreground looking toward the camera. On the right side of the picture you can see the wall beside the doorway and a small sign reading: 322 Office of President. Behind this person and mostly below her hip level you can see a mass of ADAPT Protesters, a couple in wheelchairs, others apparently kneeling or staying low. By the guard's leg, you can see Anita Cameron's head and shoulder looking around the door frame. Anita is wearing an ADAPT headband and she seems to be chanting or singing. Protest A Morehouse College security guard stands watch as disabled activists take over the president's office Monday. About 60 wheelchair-bound protesters occupied the office, demanding a meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Louis Sullivan as another 150 sat in the hallway. The group, ADAPT or American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today, plans additional protests.
